Tips for Keeping Your Personal Workspace Clean

Cleanliness and orderliness in one’s personal workspace is an important component of boosting and facilitating productivity. Having less clutter can help reduce stress and clear one’s mind of extra worries.

In this article, we will talk a little bit about how you and your employees can keep personal workspaces within the office clean – something our janitorial team assists clients with on a daily basis!

Disinfect and Dust Your Desk

Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, disinfecting one’s desk has never been more important. Disinfecting personal workspaces is important in general, but with the virus going around, now is the time to be diligent.

Dusting is another big part of keeping one’s personal workspace clean. It is not uncommon to see computer monitors and other office equipment and supplies with a thin layer of dust on them. Using a microfiber cloth or duster can rectify this issue. In fact, dusting is part of LACOSTA’s cleaning program at worksites across the United States (so is disinfecting, of course).

Disinfect and Sanitize Electronics and Appliances

Besides disinfecting and sanitizing your desk, you should also make sure you are sanitizing your keyboard, mouse, phone, and other high-touch surfaces on your desk – essentially anything you use or frequently touch throughout the day. This is important because it prevents the accumulation and spread of germs, especially since germs and dirt tend to build up on high-touch surfaces quickly.

Outside of just personal workspaces, you should also make sure you are sanitizing high-touch points in general, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. At LACOSTA, we have placed an even higher emphasis than usual on sanitizing and cleaning high-touch surfaces. By making a concerted effort to focus on these points, we are helping our clients maintain a healthy, safe, and clean work environment during this pandemic.

Keep Your Desk Organized and Neat

There is nothing more prohibitive to productiveness than a messy workspace. Looking around for documents, a pen that has ink in it, or where you last put the sticky notes can be a real drain on valuable time. Keeping all of these things organized will reduce search time and anxiety.

In line with this, you should always keep your papers organized and your desk-space as clear as possible. This will not only help you, as an employee or manager, but it will also help anyone who needs to look in company files.

Many employers have their own organizational systems for company documents and files, so much of this is discretionary. But this doesn’t change the fact that being organized is important!

Keep a Microfiber Cloth at your Desk

While it won’t provide a deep clean, a microfiber cloth is a must-have item at your workstation, especially any computer work desk. You can use it to keep your items free of dust, as well as remove any smudges on your monitor, phone, glasses, etc.

Clean On a Scheduled, Consistent Basis

The best way to keep a neat and tidy workspace is to clean on a scheduled and regular basis. This could mean cleaning your desk and workspace each day at 5:00 pm, or maybe every other day. Whatever the time interval between cleaning, just having a scheduled personal workspace cleaning time will make sure you are decluttering and sanitizing your workspace on a regular basis. This is both time-efficient and effective.

What LACOSTA Can Do and What You Can Do to Keep Personal Workspaces Clean

Obviously, we can’t help with every aspect of keeping personal workspaces clean. Things like filing and organizing company documents to reduce clutter and organizing pens, sticky notes, and other desk items are jobs for individual company employees. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t play an important role in helping do our part to keep each employee’s workspace clean.

For example, we disinfect desks and countertops, vacuum carpets, and, depending on the needs of each client, can even disinfect computer monitors, keyboards, mouses, and more. Part of what makes our services the preferred choice of so many clients is our adaptability and flexibility. We are always eager to communicate with our clients and adjust our services to meet their needs through daily reports, monthly reviews, and quarterly meetings.

If you are a current or prospective client, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask about how we can coordinate to assist employees in maintaining clean, tidy, and organized individual workspaces within the office.
