Conversation Starter: Managing a Work-Life Balance

Now, more than ever, the American workforce is focused on a work-life balance more than anything. While paychecks and financial stability are still very important (nobody is denying this), the “hustle culture” that has existed for so long is beginning to wane.

A healthy work-life balance creates more space for your mental health, physical health, and your life! The best part is, a work-life balance is unique to each person, because it’s based on your needs and wants, and no one else’s.

Here are a few ways you can start creating a better work-life balance for yourself:

  • Set Boundaries- If you leave your work at your job, and create more space for your personal time and interests, you might be surprised at the difference it makes. Sometimes, all this requires is learning when to say “no,” and understanding that’s ok.
  • Establish your value- Prioritizing work-life balance relies on you believing in yourself and your value. You know the limits of your energy and capabilities, so don’t allow anyone to take advantage of them!
  • Evaluate your priorities- Take some time to sit down and ask yourself “What am I missing from life right now?” Sometimes, the answer is more time with your loved ones or a better diet, and sometimes the answer is simply a little more sleep! If you discover something you want more of in your life, start to see what steps you can take to make that happen.
  • Communicate- Of course, nothing can happen on your own. Talk to your friends, family, co-workers, and employers, and see how they are able to help you! We’re all just trying to figure out how to live the lives we want, and a little help can go a long way.

What does a work-life balance mean to you, and how can you make it a reality?
